For the ultimate in a tailor-made rejuvenating holiday, look to Pure Kauai, which plans wellness retreats on the northern shore of Hawaii’s “Garden Isle” for celebrities, executives, newlyweds and others seeking pampering and privacy. Before I left for the island, a representative spoke with me at length to determine which accommodations and activities I’d prefer, as well as my dietary needs. I chose from the roster of exclusive cliff-top and beachfront residences, which range from a one-bedroom villa to an eleven-bedroom estate with a pool and gym, each with the option of a personal chef.

Once I was there, Pure Kauai’s enthusiastic, highly skilled therapists and yoga instructors came to my house for personal sessions. Among the treatment options are a four-hour lomilomi massage and a botanical facial. A massage from Ashley Siebring-Jones, who is favored by U2’s Bono, left me feeling transformed. When the outdoors beckoned, I sampled a menu that includes rugged coastal hiking, kayaking, scuba diving and horseback riding. After a morning surfing lesson at a nearby beach, I returned to my house to enjoy an Asian salad made by my chef, who throughout my stay prepared delicious, healthy meals. From $3,975 a person for one week. 866-457-7873;purekauai.com.
